KHOJ Naranpura · Exhibition Cycle 1

Exhibitions

Bulbule, Moving Images and Khagol — hands-on stations where children experiment, ask questions and build their own understanding of science and art.

Cycle 1

What sets KHOJ apart

What sets KHOJ apart is its dynamic nature since the very beginning. For phase 1, the four exhibits included Bulbule, Khagol and Moving Images, along with activity spaces that keep the content evolving from one cycle to the next.

A joint initiative of Manthan Education Programme Society (MEPS) and Kindermuseum Vienna, working together on KHOJ Naranpura at the Vedhshala campus, near Naranpura Railway Crossing, Ahmedabad.

KHOJ Naranpura presents exhibitions built around curiosity and participation rather than passive looking. In the first exhibition cycle, hands-on stations such as Bulbule, Moving Images and Khagol invite young visitors to experiment, ask questions and construct their own understanding of science and art. Everyday phenomena like soap bubbles become entry points for inquiry, while image-based activities encourage children to explore ideas through watching, making and trying. The emphasis sits squarely on play as a serious learning method: visitors are encouraged to touch, participate, and follow their own questions wherever they lead.

What sets KHOJ apart is its dynamic nature, visible from the very beginning of the project. Activity spaces sit alongside the core exhibits, allowing the content to keep evolving from one cycle to the next rather than remaining fixed. This design means a family returning to the museum encounters something new, while first-time visitors are drawn into a sequence of themed explorations that grow in depth and complexity. The philosophy is simple: build understanding through direct experience, connect ideas across subjects, and let the exhibits change as the visitors do.

The museum arises from a joint initiative between the Manthan Education Programme Society and Kindermuseum Vienna, working together on KHOJ Naranpura within the setting of the Vedhshala. It follows a participatory model in which scientific concepts, art and everyday life are interwoven, with regular events, activities and creative programmes extending the experience beyond the gallery floor. The approach is designed to promote curiosity and creativity in children, supporting a learning culture where questions are valued and exploration is encouraged for every age of visitor.

The Exhibits

Three ways in

Giant soap bubble dome on a teal surface with a hand close by, gentle pink and mint pastel palette Science

Bulbule

Bulbule (bubbles) we all have seen and played with. At this exhibit, we answer all your questions regarding bubbles through a series of experiments. Blowing bubbles has never been so much fun.

Abstract square composition of layered teal and pink gradients suggesting frames of film and light, calm and cinematic mood Art

Moving Images

Trace the story of animation from flipbooks to VR, and see how images learned to move. The exhibition lets visitors try the techniques behind the pictures that seem to live.

Illustration of grey mountain peaks beneath a rainy blue sky with stylized clouds, muted and contemplative mood Astronomy

Khagol

An astronomy exhibit that invites young visitors to explore planets, moons and constellations, building a sense of scale for the world above them.

Ongoing

A dynamic cycle

Because the museum is dynamic by design, exhibition content keeps changing. A later cycle at Naranpura moved into environmental prosperity, covering soil, plastic waste and climate change — the same spirit of inquiry carried into new subjects.
